quote from Stephen King, Shawshank Redemption
Engagement with life.
Dan Buettner, in his studies on longevity has found that the longest living and most content people have certain things in common. They eat healthy foods, avoid sugar, drink good wine in moderation. They continue to be productive, ;physically active and still work. They socialize with others avoiding America”s epidemic of loneliness and loss of connection. The people of Ikaria, Greece, Sardinia and Okinawa have the highest number of centenarians as anyone on the planet. I strongly believe that what keeps them vital is being fully engaged with life.
What I have noticed is that many people who retire – retire to nothing. They begin to lack enthusiasm, focus on physical ailments, watch hours of television, lose friends and don’t find nw ones and generally fade into unhealthy, premature aging. It’s become almost normal for seniors to joke about the perils of the aging process yet they don’t understand that they still can have productive, fulfilling lives.
A full life is still possible for as long as you are alive. Engage.
